The Story
The story of Meg: Primal Waters begins with a group of scientists who are conducting a deep-sea expedition in the Mariana Trench, the deepest part of the ocean. During their mission, they discover a massive, previously unknown ecosystem teeming with strange and wonderful creatures, including the Megalodon, a 70-foot-long prehistoric shark that was thought to have gone extinct millions of years ago.
As the scientists explore this new world, they soon realize that the Megalodon is not the only danger lurking in the depths. A shadowy organization known as Project Leviathan is also operating in the area, and they have their own sinister plans for the Megalodon. A battle for survival ensues, as the scientists must race against time to stop Project Leviathan and protect the Megalodon from extinction.
The Characters
Meg: Primal Waters features a cast of memorable and well-developed characters, each with their own unique motivations and strengths. The protagonist of the novel is Jonas Taylor, a former Navy SEAL and marine biologist who is recruited by the scientists to help them on their expedition. Jonas is a brave and resourceful man, but he is also haunted by the loss of his wife and daughter in a shark attack. Other key characters in the novel include:
- Dr. Mina Bergman, a brilliant marine biologist who is leading the expedition.
- Mac, a skilled engineer and Jonas's best friend.
- Lyle Waterson, a ruthless businessman who is the head of Project Leviathan.
The Science
One of the most impressive things about Meg: Primal Waters is its scientific accuracy. Alten has done a tremendous amount of research on the Megalodon and the Mariana Trench, and he uses this knowledge to create a believable and immersive world for his readers. The novel is filled with fascinating details about the ocean's ecosystem and the creatures that live there, including the Megalodon's hunting habits, its size, and its behavior. Alten also explores the potential consequences of bringing the Megalodon back from extinction, and he does so in a way that is both thought-provoking and entertaining.
The Verdict
Meg: Primal Waters is a thrilling adventure that will keep readers on the edge of their seats from beginning to end.
