My name is John, and I am a recovering addict. I have been clean for 10 years, but the memories of my addiction still haunt me. I grew up in a loving family, but my parents divorced when I was young. My mother remarried, and my stepfather was a drug addict. He introduced me to drugs when I was 13 years old.

At first, I just smoked weed and drank alcohol. But as I got older, I started to experiment with harder drugs, like cocaine and heroin. I quickly became addicted, and my life spiraled out of control. I lost my job, my apartment, and my car. I stole from my family and friends to support my addiction.

My addiction also took a toll on my family. My mother was constantly worried about me. She tried to help me, but I always pushed her away. My stepfather was abusive, and he often took his anger out on me. My siblings were scared of me, and they didn't want to be around me.

One day, I hit rock bottom. I overdosed on heroin, and I was rushed to the hospital. I almost died, but I was lucky to survive. When I woke up in the hospital, I knew that I had to change my life. I went to rehab, and I have been clean ever since.

Getting clean was the hardest thing I have ever done. But it was also the best decision I have ever made. I am now a happy and healthy person. I have a job, a home, and a loving family. I am grateful for every day that I am clean, and I know that I would not be where I am today without the support of my family.

Addiction is a terrible disease that can destroy lives. But it is also a disease that can be overcome. If you are struggling with addiction, please know that you are not alone. There is help available, and you can get clean. I am living proof that it is possible.
